Round 2: answers to Josh's replies

1. "We don't have data from the buyers"

Still true. Nothing from the 15 members yet. Point 5 below is the plan to get it.

4. What else makes free bad, and what Ryan can honestly say

Free fails on fit, not on information. What people say went wrong (AUDIENCE, BVF 1):

Your injury point, with a catch: paid programs hurt people too. At least 4 injury stories were on PAID programs (BVF 1a), e.g. "Juggernaut Ai - Constantly got injured when getting to the business end of the programmes" https://www.reddit.com/r/fitness40plus/comments/1vzd0ij/_/pbda3em/ and Israetel: "The volume was nuts." https://www.reddit.com/r/fitness40plus/comments/1pp1ewy/_/nusoiac/ . Cause in almost every story: wrong dose. We found no evidence that free injures more than paid (BVF 5). So "free will hurt you, paid is safe" is not a claim he can make.

Liability: right, nobody is liable for a free YouTube video, and Ryan can't take liability on either (no legal source checked; not advice). He is a CSCS, not a PT, and says so: "I'm not saying that I'm better than a physical therapist" (VN2). What paid honestly adds is not liability. It is: a starting dose set for you, a swap, a stop rule, and someone to ask. ATG says it in one line: "We never train through pain, and we always regress any exercise to a comfortable, pain-free level. If you need help to regress an exercise, consult with the Coach via the App Chat." (COMPETITOR, https://www.atgonlinecoaching.com/)

Ryan can likely say (HYPOTHESIS; each only if true of The Practice, needs his yes): "Starts where you are, not where you were." / "Joint-friendly versions of athlete lifts" (his examples: goblet squat, single-dumbbell bench, VN2) / "Send a form video, I reply within X" / "A simple stop rule for when something hurts" / "Not for a fresh or serious injury, herniated disc or spinal fusion. See a PT first." (his own not-for list, VN2). Stop saying (live today, CLIENT-DIRECT): "stay injury-free" and "practice injury prevention" (Practice ad, BVF 1g); "pain relief video" (his site quiz, FRB 1b). Avoid "fix", "treat", "rehab", "injury-free".

5. Better proof: a plan from what he already has

Today (CLIENT-DIRECT, TS, SYN 1): one Practice testimonial (Craig 45: "easy to fit into my life", no injury, no number). Sean 56 and Matt 28: not clear if Practice or in person. Long testimonials (Claire, Suzanne, Deb) are in person. 3 video testimonials not watched yet (MEDIA.md). Nothing names an injury, a former athlete or a number.

Plan (HYPOTHESIS; Ryan must OK it; we already have EverFit + ManyChat logins per LOG, but pull nothing without his say-so):

This week, zero effort from members

  1. EverFit: each member's join month, still active or not, workouts logged per week in their first 4 weeks. Gives honest lines like "X of 15 still training after N months" (only if it's good) and tells us who to ask.
  2. Form-check chat: count videos posted and Ryan's replies, last 60 days. Screenshot 2 or 3 (member's OK, face blurred). Proves Ryan himself answers, which hits "Is it you helping out if i sign up or some hired 20 year old?" (AUDIENCE, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_puQKhgStos&lc=Ugz9iE1rsISq3uSTyd54AaABAg).
  3. ManyChat + Systeme: comments -> DMs sent -> emails given -> buyers. Proof of demand, and shows the leak.
  4. Watch the 3 video testimonials; tag each in-person vs Practice.

Next 7 days, ask the 15 5. 5-question form in the group chat: age; sport played and level; what hurt or held you back before; one concrete change (like his own example, tennis "on a Tuesday" without being sore Thursday, VN2); OK to quote with first name + age? 6. Anyone who cancelled: one question, "what made you stop?"

Next window (4 weeks) 7. Day 1 and day 28 retest: 3 simple tests Ryan picks, logged in EverFit. Real numbers in one month. Pattern: Jeremy Scott's "Athletic Combine" baseline + retest (COMPETITOR, FRB 2.5); matches Ryan's "placement test" method (VN1). Doubles as accountability (point 6). 8. Record the monthly live Q&A; clip one good answer.

In-person clients 9. Ryan says about 7 in 10 injury clients are ones he can help (VN2). Ask 2 or 3 former athletes with an old injury for a 60-second phone video. Label it in-person training, never Practice results (round 1 caught Matt used that way, SYN 1).

Rules: real words only, written OK, no medical claims inside quotes. Small honest numbers beat none.

6. "Are you sure?" Accountability vs autonomy

Partly. Round 1 overstated the clash.

What The Practice is today ($19.99/mo, CLIENT-DIRECT, O20 1, https://coach.everfit.io/package/VD691290):

So it already sells someone watching (form checks, live call). It does not sell someone chasing you. That is the real line.

"Accountability" means at least 11 different things in buyers' words (BVF 3a). Most repeated: a fixed appointment, and a person or group who notices. Ryan's version is structure: "If there is a plan in place, if there is something that you commit to doing, the likelihood that you do it is just higher" (VN2).

Why buy (AUDIENCE, BVF 2a): can't plan ("I couldn't create a good plan to save my life", https://www.reddit.com/r/fitness40plus/comments/1fe2lz6/_/lms4u3m/); wants form checked ("£30 well spend", https://www.reddit.com/r/fitness40plus/comments/1ov0ctc/_/np54jlv/); thinks they know but want a check. Why not (BVF 2b): "Especially a scripted one that everyone gets the same." https://www.reddit.com/r/fitness40plus/comments/1pp1ewy/_/nujdr5p/ ; "another subscription I'd abandon in a month" https://www.reddit.com/r/fitness40plus/comments/1pp1ewy/ . Nobody objected to ~$20 itself.

Which person:

No, he shouldn't call people 1:1. Group or self-run options at $20 (HYPOTHESIS, BVF 3b):

Option Ryan's time
Shared start day + the monthly live call as "the appointment" ~1 h/month
Weekly check-in post in the group chat ("what did you do, what's cranky"), answered in one sitting low, grows with members
Form-check thread with a stated reply window (e.g. 48h) the main cost
Monthly retest, logged in EverFit none
"Dimmer" rule: a minimum week for busy or sick weeks (his own idea, VN2) none

1:1 calls, daily texts and custom plans don't fit $20. Elsewhere they cost $49.50 to $149 (ATG, O20 5). One-line pitch idea: "I give you the plan and check your form. You show up."

7. What competitors actually give as the freebie (clicked as a buyer)

17 brands, walked from their IG bio, logged out, no emails typed (FRB). COMPETITOR.

First thing a buyer meets from the bio: 7-day free trial 7 | email for a free workout/routine/guide 3 (Horton daily workout, GMB 20-min routine, Theory of Motion sample week) | quiz 3 (ATG, Prehab, ATHLEAN-X) | straight to a buy page 3 | free call 1. Anywhere in the funnel: trial 10 | email-gated free workout 4 | info PDF 3 (2 off-topic) | quiz 4 (only ATG shows the result before email) | comment keyword for a freebie 5 | free multi-day challenge 0 (your gut was right).

Pattern: every comment CTA names a concrete thing with a size. "Comment REBOOT20 and I'll send you a link to a free 20-minute follow-along strength and mobility routine." (GMB, 1,358 comments, https://www.instagram.com/p/C6J-WN7vGty/). "Comment DAILY and I'll send you 7 days of free access to my Daily Workouts and 10+ other programs." (JTM, https://www.instagram.com/p/Dc9crf4zCtJ/). Ryan's October version: "Comment PRACTICE for a free workout for former athletes!" (https://www.instagram.com/p/DeUZn8_xiDj/): no size, no problem named.

Closest competitor: Theory of Motion (1M IG). Same $19.99/mo, same 4-week blocks, and its freebie is "A full sample week of workouts" (theoryofmotion.co/pages/blueprint, email only).

Ryan, clicked as a buyer (CLIENT-DIRECT, FRB 1b): IG bio says November waitlist, Linktree says "October waitlist"; the waitlist page is an email box + 3 testimonials, no price or dates; the $19.99 EverFit page is not on the Linktree; the site quiz runs on someone else's domain and promises a "pain relief video". Four entry points, four promises.

Fits (HYPOTHESIS, FRB 5): make "Comment PRACTICE" send a real ~20-min follow-along Practice session (GMB / Theory of Motion pattern); a "Former Athlete Check" self-test with the result shown before email (ATG pattern); a 10-min rec-league warm-up (E3 pattern; soccer is unclaimed in this set).

8. $20: what others give vs him. Over-offering?

14 confirmed competitors at $10-35/mo, checked live (O20 2-3). COMPETITOR.

Feature Ryan How many of 14
Video form review yes 1 (Motive, $24)
Live call monthly 1 (Ready State group AMA)
DM a coach yes (not on his pages) 6
All three together yes 0 (first one is Luka at $39)
More than one program, or day/equipment versions no 11
7-day trial no 9

ATG's $19 tier is "App & program access without coaching"; "Form video coaching" and "Coach feedback in 24hrs" start at $49.50 (https://www.atgonlinecoaching.com/).

Verdict: you're right on his time, wrong on the product. He over-offers human time and under-offers the build-once part (one program, 3 days only, no gym/home versions, no trial). The $20 is carried by his hours. Time math (HYPOTHESIS, no usage data): ~2-5 h/month at 15 members, ~3-14 h at 50, ~4-27 h at 100 (O20 4). He has about one day a week for this (LOG). Fine now; breaks somewhere between 50 and 100 if members use it. But don't just cut it: form checks are what buyers call worth paying for: "It's not free, but it's worth it for the access to all of the resources, weekly personal zoom sessions and form checks alone." (AUDIENCE, https://www.reddit.com/r/fitness40plus/comments/1qbw9jh/_/nzeea1c/) Options (O20 6, not decisions): batch form checks into one weekly thread; review form live on the monthly call; a coached tier at $39-49.50; move time into 2/4-day and home/gym versions; or measure real usage for 1-2 months first. Whatever happens, grandfather anyone who joined under "Sign up before Labor Day and I'll never raise the price" (CLIENT-DIRECT, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS1Gt7pZpBA).

What changed vs round 1

  1. PRACTICE reels: round 1 was wrong. It said they "drew 3-35 likes". That was only the 3 October reels. His best reels ARE "Comment PRACTICE": 212K (boosted), 177K (boosted) and 155K (not boosted) views (AN). The 6 May-July ones had 93 to 853 comments each, 2,900 total (FRB 1a). October versions: 651 to 1,689 plays. Effect: the CTA works; the leak is after the comment (2,900 comments vs ~15 members; HYPOTHESIS, counts include non-keyword comments). Round 1's "against" note on option A is withdrawn.
  2. Reach dropped. Sept views ~half of August; daily views ~9K -> ~3K; follower growth near zero since Aug 31 (AN). Cause unknown. HYPOTHESIS: lines up with moving away from the May-July PRACTICE wording and boosting. Not tested.
  3. 46% of his followers are women (AN). Round 1's group B evidence was mostly men 38-50 (SYN 2), and his best written proof is women (Claire, Suzanne, Deb, TS). Effect: copy that only says "dad" or "ex-soccer guy" talks to half his audience. Round 1 question 14 (women 40+) moves up.
  4. Age 35-54 = 56% (35-44 30%, 45-54 26%; AN). Matches group B and the A+B overlap round 1 leaned toward. Only 19% are 25-34, where the former-athlete Reddit voices skew (SYN 2), so that evidence is younger than his audience. 55+ is 23%, so group C is not tiny.
  5. US 70%, New York 7.7% (AN). National online offer; NYC is not the hook.
  6. Freebie counts: round 1's "trial 11 of 15" counted any trial. As a buyer from the bio: 7 of 17 first, 10 of 17 anywhere. Free sample workouts: round 1 found 1 (GMB), round 2 found 4. Theory of Motion confirmed as closest (was "not checked").
  7. Human access at $20: round 1 said "at least 4 others" at $19-24. Now: 9 of 14 give some human access, but only 1 does video form review and 0 bundle form + call + DM. Ryan's bundle is unique at $20, and costly in his time.
  8. Accountability: softer than round 1. His product already has "someone watching"; what it lacks is "someone chasing", which doesn't scale at $20.
  9. Free: "free is the real competitor" stands; "free injures more than paid" is not supported.
